The Howling Coyote Newsletter!

Edition 2, Issue 20

May 28, 2020

Welcome: Damian welcomed 19 member attendees and 3 quests to our 3rd virtual Zoom meeting! There were  no visiting Rotarians.
Attendees; Damian, Mark, Harry, Rob, Jennette, Ernie, Miki, Robin, Ken, Chuck, Gerri, John, Lori, Holly, Heather, Rachelle, Carolyn, Jack, and Sara.
Greeter: Robin Von was our greeter. She led us in the 4Way Test as well as the Pledge. Her thought of the day was from Elinor Roosevelt:  “You gain strength and confidence by every experience in which you really stop and look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself  ‘I have lived through this horror’. I can take the next thing that comes along. You must do the thing you think you cannot do.” Most appropriate when considering the pandemic and all the side affects.
Guests: Tristan De Meyere: Youth Exchange student from Belgium. Tristan was our YE student in 2018-2019. He is currently in the University and is our program for the day. In addition Christie and Matt Helm joined us for their 3rd meeting  2 virtual and 1 wine social virtual. All were welcomed enthusiastically.

Club Meeting Dates: This was a follow up from Damian about his email suggesting a change in club meeting dates. The majority of members responding to his email about changing meeting dates from 2nd and 4th Thursday to 1st and 3rd Thursdays was positive. He opened the meeting for further comments. Jennette stressed that the main consideration to change was to have meetings over the holidays which with the 2nd and 4th meetings dates precluded meeting for at least 5 weeks. With no opposition, Damian will take the majority “Yes” to the June BOD meeting for final approval.
Rotary Foundation (The Rotary Foundation- TRF) Recognition: John Lothrop presented a well earned TRF award and certificate to Gerri Beaudin for a most generous donation to the TRF endowment fund. John also talked a bit about the work TRF has done and is doing with COVID 19 worldwide.
Covid 19…Suggestions from RI about Club meeting decision plans: Damian sent an attachment with the meeting agenda for the full document. RI has suggested that each club must make their own decision based on member safety. It is better to move in the direction of safety rather than meet in person. Sedona Village Rotary will meet virtually in June and July and consider when it best for the membership to meet in person.
Program Tristan De Meyere: Tristan presented a wonderful PowerPoint about his experiences since he left us last July. Meeting with family, friends, scouting, starting University, and traveling have kept him busy. He has been studying a lot at his University Namur (sp) and is looking forward to his last final in 2 weeks.. He also provided a glimpse at how COVID 19 has affected Belgium. He provided a timeline similar to Arizona’s but a bit more aggressive. He and his family are well but social distancing except for girlfriend who was a friend in Arizona at Red Rock HS!! He has kept up with other YE students from Austria, Spain, and Belgium. What a wonderful RI program and we were very fortunate to have an exceptional YE Student in Tristan. He thanked us again for his opportunity to live and meet Rotarians in Sedona.
Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI): Starts this Saturday virtually 9am to noon.. Sign up on line with the District website (rotarydistrict5495.org). Ken is attending.2
