Welcome: The Rotary Club of Sedona Village held its Annual Celebration (Demotion, Inductions, Awards) tonight via Zoom. President Damian (his last hurrah) brought the rowdy crowd to order at 6pm and promised a fun filled evening. They quieted down with their own pizzas and drink of choice. It appeared that some had imbibed prior to the meeting’s start!!
Attendees: The following members attended: Harry, Peg, Ernie, Mark, Jennette, Chuck, Robin, Lori, Ken, Harvey, Damian, Danielle, Debbie, Dennis, Sara, Heather, Rob, Holly, Miki and John (20).
Guests: David Bill, Mari and Brian Chang, and Ken Dzugan (4).
Damian’s Adventure: Jennette as the President Elect had the honor to present “Damian’s Adventure” a film created by Carolyn Chang, Mari Chang, Brian Chang, Debbie Chanel, and Robin Von. The film was produced by Chang Studios Film, is a true story, and related to Damian’s adventure moving West from Brooklyn NY to Sedona, AZ. Damian started his journey in NY and quickly drove to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and hung out with some Rock Stars … even looked similar to Damian in his youth. Pushing westward on Route 66, he stopped in Chicago for Pizza and a meeting with Mob Boss Al Capone and Meyer Lansky! Onward to Denver where he met up with Cheech and Chong and went skydiving and bungee jumping! Wow who knew our President was such a daredevil?? Apparently he made a quick stop in Hollywood to film an episode with the Seinfeld team…he kinda looked like Kramer. While hunting for celebs he met up with Tom Cruise and the Mission Impossible Gang. Did some Star Wars work, and the returned to Route 66. Through Monument Valley he saw the Monuments, Red Rocks…and started walking as did Forrest Gump! He ended up in Flagstaff where he settled down….his adventure over. A great film production… 5 stars!! a first in the annals of Sedona Village Rotary. Magnificent!! Congratulations to Carolyn, Robin, Debbie and the Chang Team, Mari and Brian of Chang Studios!
President Elect: Jennette had the honor of presenting “The Boot” to Damian which honored his term as President and service to Sedona Village Rotary. In addition she presented him with a plaque signifying his Presidential year and his Past President’s pin with a 4 carat (kinda) diamond in the middle. All of these gifts were in appreciation to Damian for his service as President from July 2019 thru June 2020.
Damian’s Turn: Damian started his presentation with a Thank You to many of those on screen. He also announced that the Club had received The RI Presidential Citation after meeting its various criteria. Congratulations Sedona Village RC!! Damian then reviewed the fundraising and social events for the year and was very appreciative for everyone’s support to make this year truly exceptional!!
He made special reference to:
John for his tech support at In Person meetings and for his clear understanding of the Rotary Foundation, presentations to the Club, and keeping the Club Foundation news in the forefront,
Miki for keeping the budget balanced and website viable,
Harry for doing an profitable job with Happy Bucks and Sgt At Arms,
Jack who led us at Sedona Winds Veteran’s Day celebration,
Crystal who led the Blood Drive,
Robin who took care of “We care” for sick and missing members, as well as producing The Howling Coyote into the Bulletin, help lead the Blood drive and hosting the Halloween Party,
Chuck for keeping RC of Sedona Village in the news, taking pictures and keeping RCSV connected with the News agencies,
Danielle for leading The Grocery Grab, supporting Future Chef, and co leading the programs committee.
Awards: Damian awarded “Rotarian of the Year” to Mark for his consistent service to the club, and the “Service Above Self” award to Rob for doing so much above and beyond for the club for the past 3 years.
Induction of New Officers, Directors and Chairs: Damian inducted Jennette as the President for 2020-21, who in turn inducted her Officers and Directors and Committee Chairs. Damian presented Jennette with her official Gavel.
President Jennette: Jennette thanked all who volunteered for next year’s leadership roles. She sees an exciting year with many opportunities. She reminded us that “Rotary Opens Opportunities” as the New Rotary Year Theme. She also applied a metaphor with a garden that she believes our club is “planting new seeds, growing, producing and will Open New Opportunities for us this next year!” Her first meeting (virtual) is July 2nd, 7:30 am. At this meeting Committee Chairs will be presenting their plans for 20-21.
