The Rotary Club of Sedona Village Meeting Summary of April 25, 2019
Punctual President Rob was a bit tardy today…but only because he was his gregarious self welcoming guests! We started around 7:30. Rob reminded us that our International President is Barry Rassin from the Bahamas and his theme is: “Be The Inspiration.”

Greeter: John Lothrop was the greeter and has a wonderful thought of the day: “We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors…we borrow it from our children.”

Visiting Rotarians: Jeanette Bill, Sedona RC
Guests: Dr. Rachelle Jarvis, Village Veterinarian, Doug Egen our guest Speaker, and Ken Rouse

Happy Bucks:
Miki: Gave an overview of our signature Fund Raiser  “Taste of the Village.” This is our signature fund raiser with a goal of $10,000 to be raised. Your time and effort is needed to make this happen. Click here for full details and how to get involved.

Danielle: Local Food prep and delicious meals delivered to your home!!

David: Grant Awards update, and Village Plant sale this Sat 9-12:30 at Big Park school

EREY: 3 more Rotarians signed up. We still have 7 members who haven’t made their donation of $25 or more.

….and several more that this scribe couldn’t catch up to record.

Raffle winner: Provided by John Lothrop (bottle of wine)  Chrys Hoyle

Announcements: President Rob and Committee Chairs brought us up to date regarding:
Grant Awards:  David G.: The committee interviewed all grant applicants. $7500 will be distributed to the recipients and they will be invited to attend a club meeting on April 23rd, so checks can be presented.
Scholarships: Russ Snider:5 Red Rock HS students applied for the $3000 provided this year. The committee interviewed the applicants and selected 3. Each will receive $1000. They will be invited to a club meeting on June 13th for certificate presentation.
Missoula Children’s Theater: Happening June 3-8.
Year End Celebration:  Damian:  Happening June 27th at Redstone Grille
Culinary Experience: Danielle and Robin volunteered to manage the event, which will occur next Fall, more details soon.
Rotary Park: Rob is in discussions with VOCA about RCSV becoming the sponsor for VOCA Park.  Partnering with VOCA could be a win-win for the community.  More details as discussions complete.
Blood Drive: Cryss provided some details for a Blood Drive to be held August 14th. VOCA will provide the community room.  We will be partnering with the Village Business Association, VOCA, and the Holiday Inn Express to manage the attendance. More to come.
The club received an acknowledgment from the RI Foundation for a $125 donation.  It was our frequent visiting Rotarian, Jerry Curnow, from Wisconsin, who made the donation in the name of our club.
Birthdays: Rob and Cryss orchestrated a new event called “BUNs for Birthdays.” Cryss’s hotel will be providing the cina-buns for the blood drive and introduced them to the membership today. Mark was recognized for still being alive, if not alert, and received a bun with a single blazing candle! Chris Loggia received a bun with a candle to celebrate her 1 day anniversary in the club, sort of a birthday; our president stretches our imaginations.  It is also Heather’s birthday month, but she had the good sense to be missing; avoiding a possible link between her and this flaming spectacle.

New Member Induction: We were very happy to welcome Christina (Chris) Loggia to our membership. She came from New York with her husband Christopher just a few months ago after visiting Sedona several times. Chris is in the healing (mind and body) business. Provides seminars and teaching to those in need.
Program: Doug Egen provided a very thoughtful program about the “Boys to Men” organization.
Boys to Men is a mentoring program for boys 13-19 yrs old. They participate as a result of encouragement by friends, school counselors, and parents. Mentors are trained to “Listen, Accept and Encourage.” MTB was started 14 yrs ago in San Diego, and now is in 21 cities across the US. They have various events for the boys to participate in: “School Circles,” “Adventure Day,” and “Raven Weekend.” Doug provided details on each. For more info go to www.boystomenaz.org. The program consists of 238 boys and 109 mentors.
This program is also starting a program very similar for girls. Doug does his MTB work out of Prescott. A most interesting and thought provoking program.

In closing, Runaway Rob presented the RI vision and theme juxtaposed to our club statement; showing we all have the same objectives, as Rotarians.
We adjourned at 8:29.
