Introducing The Howling Coyote Newsletter!
January Issue 1

The Rotary Club of Sedona Village Meeting Summary of January 10, 2019
Welcome to 2019!

Our President, the resilient Rob Schaefer, welcomed all to the meeting….kinda on time!. There was NO mention of who our RI President is or his theme!! My oh my …how the holidays create a shortness and deterioration in memory. We were greeted by the optically perfect Dr. Carolyn Martin…she had  a “clear” picture of what to do next…we said the Pledge of Allegiance, cited the 5 Way test, welcomed guests. Jeanette welcomed her special guest and neighbor, who apparently lives in David Simmer’s previous home, boy that took some clean up…Louise Brinton. There were visiting Rotarians Holly Johnson from Hawaii..but she must have not signed in. BTW she still wants to be a member!

Happy Bucks…Harry started with something to do with National Disasters….and on and on. Harry what is Happy about a disaster?  He then circled the room and he had lots of donations in the Club Spittoon, about Happy things to members wanted to share with the membership. Members were obviously busy over the holidays.

Club Newsletter

Mark stood…which is getting harder each day…and announced that we are going to have a newsletter! Heather and he met and concluded it can be done. The format is set, Damian will provide pics and Mark will scribe the first newsletter…however we need two more scribes. This is fun work. Please call Mark 925-786-8435 to volunteer…… before he calls you. Easy work…you take fun notes at the meeting and send to Heather to include in the newsletter. The attending membership then had the opportunity to name the Newsletter. The selections included: The Village Voice, The Village Crier, The Ravens call, The Bell Ringer, Shouting Rabbit, Bell Rock Ringer, Butte Bugle, Howling Coyote, and Rotary Bell Rock…there were no more suggestions. The vast majority of members, and with significant support from his parents, Damian and Danielle, Dante’s suggestion of “Howling Coyote” was voted as the name of choice.

Raffle: John Lothrop won the raffle which was a Bronze Rotary logo…he couldn’t quite figure out what to do with it…door knocker, paper weight? We were all happy he won!!

Club Goals Year To Date
Mr. President then went over our goals and results for the first 6 months of the Rotary Year. We look pretty good!. He complimented everyone on their participation and support. Rob will file this overview on the club Website under “Club Successes!”
Program: Peg Schlichtemeier presented
“Verde Valley First Books”
This is a volunteer based program in Verde Valley that sponsors monthly interactive story times for 4 yr olds in preschools, daycare and Head Start Centers in Sedona and Verde Valley. This is not in competition with Imagination Library but is a follow on to receiving books. Each child receives a book to take home and share with his/her family. At the end of the school year they will have a mini library in their homes. Also books at left with each classroom every month. The books are purchased at a very low price from a national publisher.

Peg went on to provide many facts that support the need to read and distribute books to young children, and the many benefits that result. Her presentation can also be found on our website under the January 10thnewsletter minutes. There are currently 40 volunteers…there always a need for more! This was a wonderful presentation and organization. It appears that RCSV will be involved going forward in 2019.

Thank you Peg…and she received a most appropriate club gift presented by our well read President, of a bookmark for her efforts!

The meeting was adjourned kinda late!!
