The Howling Coyote Newsletter!

Edition 2, Issue 19

May 14, 2020

Welcome: Damian welcomed the membership “virtually” and promptly at 7:30am. In attendance were 19 members and two guests: Christie Helm, a potential member sponsored by Jennette Bill, and Ashton King who is the District Interact Governor were guests. Damian sent a Power Point slide group to each of us via email, here it is again for your review. It includes an agenda, and a calendar of upcoming events as well as the Rotary Mission and RI Presidents name and theme.

Greeter: Jack Harris was the Greeter. He led us in the pledge and 4 Way Test. Rob had the banner to help us forgetful ones!. Jacks Thought of the Day: “It’s not hard to do the right thing, its hard to know what the right thing is. Once you know what the right thing is, it’s hard not to do it!”
Attendees at todays Meeting: Damian, Rob, Mark, Jennette, Carolyn, Heather, Robin, Debbie, Lori, Ernie, Peg, Holly, Ken, John, Miki, Rochelle, Chuck, Sara, and Crys. (19) and (2) guests: Christie Helm potential member Sponsored by Jennette, and Ashton King, the District Interact Governor. No visiting Rotarians.
Happy Bucks: Damian-Making compost with Dante, Rob- Moving ahead with the club leadership team, Mark- Getting “do its” done, Jennette-working with the 20-21 leadership team to do some good planning, Carolyn-Happy to be here, Lori-Looking forward to no more home schooling, Holly- Happy to do Zoom yoga, Robin-walking 4 miles a day, Miki-happy to hear Ashton is the new Interact Governor, Rochelle-Happy to hear all are doing well, Chuck-Happy to be 6th li line for a haircut, Debbie-Happy to not get the virus,  and Sara-Just got a haircut.
District Governor Interact: Ashton King visited us today and presented a short review of his role as DG Interact. Ashton has been among Rotary Clubs and Rotarians for many years as his Mom is a Rotarian. He enjoys Interact. Has learned a lot about himself, and his leadership capabilities have grown. Interact organizational structure mirrors the Rotary District. Each Interact club President sits on the District Council. This structure has become a model in the US. Ashton also talked about his participation in RYLA (Rotary Youth leadership Awards). It is a life changing experience as reported by many other attendees.
In Person vs Virtual meetings: We had a good discussion regarding In Person vs Virtual meetings. The group agreed that with the Virus, CDC rules and Governor mandates, that we should meet virtually until the “rules” change that will allow us to meet in person.
Social Events: Again a good discussion regarding having the membership meet in person at social events vs Zoom. There are 3 potential meetings suggested: Ice Cream Social, Wine Tasting and a Happy Hour. The consensus was to have a wine tasting… virtually. Lori Z will contact The Decanter to see if they could arrange for us to all buy a bottle or half so we could all be tasting the same wine. More to come on details….however tentatively set your calendar for May  21st, 5pm if all can be arranged.
Club Grant Award Selections: Rob brought the membership up to date regarding The Charitable Board’s selection of 2019-20 Grant applications. Applications that followed the Application Focus Items were given priority…mostly towards education/Literacy. We awarded $7050 this year, and will submit 3 grants to the District for Matching Grants. That has to be completed by 5-31. Damian and Rob are “on it!” Presentations will follow as the calendar is set up with recipients.
Blood Drive: Tentatively scheduled for July 8th. Crys is working with VOCA to set the date. She will report out at next meeting.
Annual Club Celebration and Installation of Officers and Directors: Due to the virus, the Annual Celebration will be postponed until we can meet In Person. The Installation of Officers and Directors will take place virtually on June 21.
The Calendar: See slides Damian provided at the top of this newsletter.
