Navajo Water Project
David Simmer joined us to share a project the Rotary Club of Sedona is coordinating. An online charitable auction of gift cards/certificates from local businesses to help the Navajo Water Project during this difficult time. Rotarians and friends of Rotary are invited to purchase gift cards/certificates from their favorite establishments and donate them to the Rotary auction. The establishments will win twice—once with the purchase of the gift certificates and a second time when the purchaser of the gift certificate frequents the establishment and, in most cases, spends beyond the value of the gift certificate. The online auction will be held for five hours on Sept. 12, 10 to 3 p.m. on CharityAuctionsToday.com. The beneficiary of the auction is Rotary’s Navajo Water Project. Please send your purchased gift cards/certificates to David Simmer, 35 Altair Avenue, Sedona, AZ 86336.

Our Club decided to take the Happy Time dollars for August and use them to purchase certificates and contribute to this fundraiser. What a great chance to support our local restaurants and a worthy cause!

Honorary Rotarians

Today, we had the opportunity to recognize and honor a lifelong Rotarian, Mel Upp. With 31 in attendance on the Zoom meeting, and many for Mel, it was a special morning.

Mel was spoken of as a living example of someone who embodies living and applying the 4 Way Test. We couldn't agree more!

Special thanks and honor were also given to restauranteur and Club supporter, John Ramagli, and our Redstone host for our meetings for 3 years, Mike Smith.

Thank you all for your support and for what you have done for Rotary.

Community Garden
Today we heard about the progress being made on our signature project, Community Garden on the baseball diamond at Big Park Community School.

The fence posts are being installed today, August 6. The full fence will be installed within a week. We saw artist renderings of what the space can look like in the future, complete with Rotary colors on the buildings, in the Garden, and with plenty of space for socializing and hosting events.

The sponsorship packet is forthcoming and the Community Services committee will meet next week to finalize it. To date we have $7,000 in cash donations confirmed, and $2,500 of in-kind donations, one from the fence company.

Thanks to the piece in the Villager, we were front page news this week and community members are talking about it and expressing interest in being a part of the project. We're in need of help on the committee and invite anyone to participate.

Please reach out to club member, Heather Hermen for details and to jump in and help.
