This morning we were joined in person by Catherine Moore, fellow Sedona Rotarian, to share her experience with building a well in Africa. Catherine shared the process was a tedious one with plenty of paperwork. They applied for a grant and received support not only through an international grant, but a matching district grant. They were able to carry out the project with $100,000 in funding and donations. The project was a large undertaking that resulted in the final celebration for the natives after a 2 year process. Catherine and her husband were able to make the journey along with other Rotarians from Sedona and the US. They saw where the cattle had been drinking from a very small tank, to having their own troughs built for cattle and native habitat. They were also able to see the results of water being placed at the local elementary school, making it one of the most popular schools because water was readily available. Housing was added for teachers and students. an easier system for collecting water in containers to transport made it more convenient for everyone, humans and animals included. Thank you to Catherine for joining us. If you are interested in how to get involved with water related programs, please visit: WASH, Rotary Action Group.
