“Comfortable being Uncomfortable” was the theme of club member, Jon Linford’s program at the July 16th meeting. He told the story about taking a group of boys on a hike of the “50 mile” Highline Trail along the Mogollon Rim in Arizona. (Turned out to be a 63-mile hike.) The point of the effort was to take them out of their comfort zone and give them confidence that they can do more than they realize.
The first day of the trek was the hardest. One of the chaperones developed a blister on the sole of his foot and had to leave the trek. This was dispiriting to the group, especially the man’s son who was, nevertheless, convinced to stay with the effort. All the boys were tired and discouraged and there was a great deal of complaining.
The next morning, however, it was like a switch had been flipped. They woke up ready to do this, which they did for the next four days without complaint. At the last campsite of the trip, a hot steak dinner was brought in for them. “No meal had ever tasted so good”
On the last day the boys ran the last 13 miles!
There had been some preparation leading up to the trip. Participants were taken on a couple of two-day hikes where they learned how much to pack for multiple day trips and got used to camping.

Clark's Market Receipt Grab
Clark's Market receipt grab for the club's Vets programs netted a donation of $2656.68. Kevin Fry presented a check for that amount to the club. He mentioned that our local market has become an inspiration for Clark's Markets at other locations in the support of local charities. Yea, Kevin!!

“Peter and Wendy” 35th annual Missoula Children's Theater

Rotarians, Friends, and Thrill Seekers,
The 35th annual presentation, except for the COVID era, of the Missoula Children's Theater in Sedona is upon us.
Our Club, under the incredible leadership of Jennette Bill, will once again facilitate the impossible: 60 children, selected from the 1st through the 12th grade will learn a theater production, "Peter and Wendy," and present two performances in six days, starting on Monday July 27th with auditions. The children come from all over the Verde Valley and beyond for the opportunity to become people and beasts in roles they never imagined, and they love it. So will you.
Our Club, partnering with the Sedona Recreation Department, Jason Vargo, and the Community Library of Sedona, Vivian Kraus, assure the facility at the West Sedona School is ready and that the children's arrival and departure are properly documented. We also manage the performance ticket sales and the Saturday performances.
As they say in the business: “This is quite a production.”
Your assignment, should you accept it, is to assure the children and the Missoula Directors can focus on the task at hand to produce entertaining productions on Saturday afternoon, August 1st. We are in the West Sedona School's multipurpose room (air conditioned).

Q. Where did the “Rotary” part of the club’s name come from?
A. The very first Rotary meeting in 1905 didn’t happen in a boardroom. It took place in Room 711 of the Unity Building in Chicago, which was the office of a coal merchant. The name "Rotary" actually came from the early practice of rotating meetings among the offices of the different members.
