We were joined today by Dr. Munro of the Amarok Society. The Amarok Society works with teaching mothers to read, and then turn around and teach their children. Dr. Munro showed firsthand photos of Bangladesh and the conditions children face there. She then shared moving examples of what it's like for children in these conditions to work in child labor conditions, never learning to read, doing hard physical manual labor, and girls being married as young as 11 years old. What they have found through the Amarok Society, is that by changing their outlook with the simple yet, life-changing knowledge of reading, they can change the entire community. Women are empowered to make decisions, learn, work, and become entrepreneurial in spirit, thus changing their family life and dynamic forever. Dr. Munro's telling of these situations made for a motivational kick-start to our Rotary year. They have worked with over 200 Rotary clubs worldwide to raise funds and continue to make a difference in the lives of children. We will help them this month by contributing our happy bucks dollars to the non-profit at the end of July. Join us by clicking here and choosing Happy Bucks on PayPal!
