The Rotary Club of Sedona Village Meeting Summary of January 24, 2019

The Rotary Club of Sedona Village had it’s second meeting of the New Year and it was a cold one at 29 degrees….outside! Our President, Resolute Rob, banged the bell on time and we were off. Healthful Heather was the Greeter and all was organized as usual!

Guests: Two guests visited us, Don and Sherrie Smith from the Manzanita Outreach Organization. Just a visit with a brochure shared.

Meeting Agenda and Coming Attractions: Regal Rob provided the attendees with a clear agenda, time frames, and a list of “coming attractions”. See the club website for the agenda and list.

Announcements included:

John Lothrop, had a birthday and had to listen to the obligatory “Birthday Song” and all were happy it was him and not us!

Heather’s Run: We again went through the details and the sign up sheet that allows all members to participate. If you have not signed up to help (no running) then please do so soon. There is lots to do and volunteers are needed.

Interact Fundraiser: Russ Snider mentioned the Interact event where he, Rob, Mark and Heather joined the RRHS interact club and provided food for starving HS students which was really a big “Congratulations” for their fine effort to raise over $5400 for the Paradise (No. California) Rotary Club’s Interact Clubs Foundation to help victims of the Camp Fire in November. Job well done!!

RYLA Weekend: Jeanette announced that the RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Academy) students who attended this year’s retreat at Pinetop, would be providing feedback about their experiences on Feb 12that RRHS, Performing Arts Center. Foundation Education: John Lothrop provided the membership with a clear picture of the club Goals which are for Annual Giving $3100, per capita $125, and the End Polio Now Club goal of $500 has been achieved. He emphasized that the Club Fund is not the same as The Rotary Foundation (TRF). So…. when you give to one its not going into both Foundations. See his presentation at the club website. Set up your Rotary account and begin giving today. Instructions can be found here.

Rotary Club of Sedona Village (RCSV) Grant News: Our Rotary Club has approved a Grant to the Navajo Nation for water resources and material to provide fresh, clean, running water. The Grant was for $1000. John Lothrop provided a good video called “Off the Grid” which demonstrated how our Grant money would be used.
Program: Verde Valley Regional Economic Organization (VVREO), Molly Spangler and Mary Chicoine
Molly and Mary teamed up to tell us the VVREO is a regional collaborative resource, building sustainable economic prosperity and access to resources for regional business creation, attraction, retention, and expansion. It serves the diverse communities of the Verde Valley region which encompasses approximately 700 sq. miles and includes 8 towns and cities, unincorporated communities and the Yavapai/Navajo Nation.

VVREO was formed as a collaborativeof economic professional representing theunique needs of their individual communities. Together these professionals and the work they do serve as vital economic resources for the area businesses, entrepreneurs and professionals. VVTREO’s ongoing success is rooted in cooperative regional partnerships that represent all communities.
Raffle: Gift- A “Full Car” Pass to Bearizona and a candle won by Reliable Rob…..Who as President, an attorney and well aware of the tax liabilities of gifts,  probably should have excused himself from the raffle!! Do you think he has enough friends to fill a “Full Car?”

Adjournment: Rapacious Rob provided the speakers with the club gift of book marks and we adjourned on time to return to clear skies and warmer temperatures!!  Yeeoooooow!  (get used to it…that’s a howling coyote sound!)

Scribe:The only one taking notes in the meeting room…Mark.
