Club Activity & Golf Extravaganza Update
Today's meeting centered around Club updates and activities we have going on.

First, the big news! We had a successful Golf Extravaganza even with the rain on September 26. It sprinkled and then it poured on us. We had 60 golfers registered to play and only 2 of them cancelled due to the weather. We had almost 100% participation from our Club and even though golfers were only able to play 6 holes, the event was fun and something to be celebrated. Drumroll please.... we raised almost $15,000! 20% of the proceeds will benefit Special Olympics Verde Valley and announcements will follow about other funds and how we will make a difference with them. THANK YOU doesn't cover it, so we celebrated with cake at the meeting today.

Also at our meeting, we inducted our Honorary Rotarian, Mr. Dennis Dearden, superintendent of the Sedona Oak Creek Unified School District. Mr. Dearden is a champion for our students and a champion for our Club. He's supported our Community Garden since the idea was brought to him last year and continues to support our efforts by leasing our classroom space to us. We welcome Mr. Dearden and thank you for the commitment you make to our community!

We also heard about Mr. Coffee, Harry Grossman and his childhood in Chicago, Florida, then moving on to Boston, and finally making it to Sedona. Harry loves to read and he loves model trains even more. Thank you, Harry for sharing your story with us.

PROM CLOSET
We're collecting donations to help the Rotary Club of the Verde Valley with their Project Prom Closet. If you have any formal dresses, shoes, jewelry, men's formal wear, shoes, ties, pocket squares, suspenders, etc., please bring them to the next Rotary meeting. We'll gather all of the items and store them in our classroom and then deliver in November.

World Polio Day is October 24

World Polio Day is October 24 and you may have read all about it in the recent issue of Rotary Magazine. If we as a Club have just 30 members contribute, donate, or raise $50 each, we can contribute $1,500 towards the fight against polio. Plus, it will be matched by the Gates Foundation. If you would like to donate, please click here and choose the Happy Bucks option. Each month our Happy Bucks donations are donated to a non-profit of our choice. This month, they are going towards fighting polio!

Make plans to attend the next Rotary Club meeting on October 21 to hear about the efforts to eradicate polio by Rotary with our own Mark von H. as our speaker.
